AI in the Loop: Enhancing Cultural Property Protection Activities Through Intelligent Methods

The 2nd Lecture (2023-2024) organised by the HS Academy for “Current Topics in Heritage Science” is entitled  AI in the Loop: Enhancing Cultural Property Protection Activities through Intelligent Methods delivered online on November 30th, 3-4 pm (CET), by Dante Abate, a researcher at the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence (Cyprus). The lecture illustrates how Artificial Intelligence (AI) – powered methods are now being employed in cultural heritage protection activities: monitoring online platforms, enabling the identification, tracking, and reporting of illegal sales and transactions. The lecture focuses on how, through intelligent methods, we can harness the power of technology to offer a proactive approach, ensuring the safety and preservation of invaluable cultural assets for future generations.

The lecture series Current Topics in Heritage Science of the IPERION HS Academy aims at providing online training on fundamental aspects of heritage science, such as techniques and methodologies, as well as on specific heritage typologies and other topics of interest to the field. The lectures are targeted at emerging professionals, such as students and young researchers, but also advanced conservators, curators, restorers, and other cultural heritage stakeholders. The lectures are organized by a team of emerging professionals and are held online through the Zoom webinar platform every fourth Thursday of the month. Attendance is free and the lectures are typically 30 min long, followed by Q&A.
