In 2020, the Times of Malta Photographic Archive was accessioned by the National Archives of Malta. The collection came in hundreds of dusty boxes and it is estimated that there are more than 1 million photographs. Before any sort of digitization could start, Archivists and Conservators at the National Archives of Malta must first clean the negatives and prints, and re-box them into archival quality boxes. Afterwards comes digitization and cataloguing into the NAM’s online catalogue. Some of these photographs have already been made available online and the plan is to add more in the near future.
